Question Car Aesthetics : Part One - Colours

A while ago on Top Gear (UK) they reviewed the Ferrari 458, Clarkson made the statement that this was the best looking Ferrari since the 308 (one thing I tend to agree with him about, but he is less than 10 years older than me so maybe thats a factor)

Now before we descend into the arguments about everything else how about we talk about colour, of cars, not members of the gender you fancy

I will admit to have owned a white car, a silver car, a bronzit beige car & a few black cars.

My preference is more silver/grey/gunmetal/black, but a dark blue works too.

    What about you ?

    Cheers,
    Iain

I've had a red one, a silver one that wasn't my choice, a grey one that also wasn't my choice, and one that was a combination of silver/grey/primer/rust.

For me it depends on the car. I like my car now (RS6) in black, just more subtle and mean than the signature electric blue. Having said that the R8 in that electric blue is my favorite colour on that car. Ferrari 458 in white, Benz E63 in Silver, Golf GTI in red: all sorts of different colours seem to have their place (and context) on different cars. Except maybe zinc: I have issues with a zinc coloured e39 523 on hubcaps that was in the BMW shop in Melbourne about 14 years back: that i never got the point of.

One things for sure - the new range of BMWs appears to be only available in black / white / grey variants. Every new 5er ive seen driving around has been Space Grey. Its becoming quite a boring look for me

The majority of my cars have been blue, with a couple of white ones. The E60 is my first black car (Carbon Black). Colour is important but there are other factors obviously when choosing a car based on aesthetics. For me I like aggressive, flowing lines and the interior has to be a really nice place. Not too busy, just well laid out, easy to use instruments, high quality materieals and build, and comfortable. The E60 fits the bill, but is also functional in that it has a large boot and makes for a perfect family car and is great for long trips.

The best car I ever owned though, hands down, is the RX8. Aesthetically I couldn't fault it, both inside and out (looks are subjective, the RX8 is a love it or hate it design).

My ultimate car based on looks alone would have to be the Maserati Gran Turismo. I love that aggressive front end and the bulging front guards.

I prefer exterior shades with interior colour. So black/white/gunmetal greys.

My first car I resprayed gunmetal grey. My first E34 was white, second was dark silver, third was white.

I love white cars but I don't think it suits everything -- I wouldn't get it on an E46.

Gimme a black Ferrari 456/F355 vert with red or tan interior!

I don't really have a preferance. I prob wouldn't have a white car or a pink car but all others are for consideration. Some colors look good on some cars and carp on others

I suppose it depends on the type of car, but my old 280CE was midnight blue, it was the best colour you could have that car, in my opinion. And i think the Anthracite Grey of my SEC is very hard to beat, such a nice colour wouldn't change it.

I've had 2 dark greens, one white, one black and now Blue. Black when clean is my favourite, so truthfully only liked the colour for 60% of the time, however the blue on the Golf is hard to beat as an awesome colour for me!

I like white the best. (might be a bit biased though) I also tend to have a soft spot for yellows on cars that generally attract attention for other reasons too.

It depends on the car, but I prefer black and white to colours. Red on the right car.

I've had lot's of different colours including:
3 x Green - a Kind of pale metalic green on an Alfa which was gross, and a 2 dark green on a falcon, and the MPV.
White - On a couple of old torana's including one white/black Torana hatchback which is probably the only light coloured car I owned that I liked the look of.
3 x Red - all on Fords, and all with a darker undertone. Dark grey on the TX3 and ESP and black/red pepper on the GT.
1 x Blue - An Ice Blue fairmont that looked better in the showroom than on the road.
1 x Cherry black - which is still one of my favourite colours of all time. It was available on lots of HSV's at the time.
    1 x Silver - Boring
1 x Dark grey (Almost Black)
4 Black cars in varying shades with undertones of grey on one.

    I'm sure I've missed some

    I've always preferred darker colours.

I really like henna rot on the e30s though and would love one in that colour.
