Yep just saw Tom's post about the hack, hadn't been on since your last reply about no motorkhana
Yeah your post would have gone when the site got hacked and restored. We lost a week or so.
So yes, no motorkhana and yes $10 entry. I gotta say, Northam really doesn't do it for me as a destination either. Neither does Winter. Just don't get these Merc Club fellas and their logic.

Seems like a not very exciting day then.
It has been years since there have been some good cruises.
So, Why don't you organise something for us all Dave?
Too busy to get a weekend free to go for a proper drive these days let alone the time to put something together. Someone else is more than welcome to have a crack though
Well personally, I'm still definitely 100% attending. I think you can probably get away with not paying the $10 (at least I'm certainly hoping not to) provided you don't cruise on up with the Merc club. I think their sell is that the $10 gets you one of their maps, a ticket for a raffle (you can win some stuff of some sort) and a show bag with some more stuff of some sort in it.
I'll be driving up with the BMW club, so it should be a pretty fun drive up there. The forecast for the day is good meaning there should hopefully be a good showing so I still reckon it will be worth the effort going along. Others are welcome to come tag along on the BMW club run if they fancy - they're not charging anything for a map. If anyone's interested, let me know and I can whack up the meet point details.
Completely agree with your sentiments though Dave. Winter is a crap time to be running something like this, and I'm not sure Northam is really into hosting the event. If you have some suggestions for change, you need to five your feedback to the Merc club! Nonetheless, the cars and drive still make it a fun day.
From memory the last time I went there they wanted $10 at the gates in Northam to put your car on show but they weren't doing the show bags or anything like that so you might be onto something there.
As for changes to the location, it's really a case of where can we find a place that is willing to host it. York always used to be good but I gather there's still some argy bargy going on there in the local council which is why we left in the first place 5ish years ago. What is odd though is that Northam works fairly well for the flying 50, although that could have something to do with turning half the town into the track for the cars to rip around, along with there being a massive variety of cars.
You really need a destination that is a large small town like a york or northam. Need to have a big open space, a cafe or two to get something to eat, and preferably not a million miles away so people other than the owners of the cars actually might come and have a look at what's going on.
It should still be a decent day though, a BMW club run is usually pretty decent and it's always a good excuse to track down some of the better roads out that way. I'd be going if I wasn't already booked up for this weekend 2-3 months ago!
I would have loved to be there to meet some folks and see some E28's and other flash rides but our baby daughter arrived a little early.
Hope all who go have a great day.

Yeah it's always going to be a bit tricky to find a venue, and yes I believe there are some background issues with York. I think part of the problem is that it is German Car Day rather than some other event. The reality is the general population isn't terribly interested in going out of their way to look at German cars. There's still no reason not to change the time of year though IMHO.....
Anyways, for anyone interested in tagging along with the BMW Club, they're meeting at Midland Gate Shopping Centre in teh undercover carpark opposite Target at 9am for a 9:30am sharp departure. I think the Merc club is meeting at the Centrepoint Midland Shopping Centre just down the road if anyone fancied travelling with them and leaving around the same time.
did anyone from ECCA go to the german car day this year?
Went up for a look but didn't put my car on show, there was a pretty good turnout from all marques but it wasn't as good without the autokhana.

Autokhana should be back next year, was talking to one of the organisers on the day, said that they would have loved to have it this year, but Porsche club didnt pull their finger out and organise it...
