Try pelican parts first, i save ALOT from them and shipping doesnt even bring me back to square one, but as previously said shipping could become alot. However, you could split your order in two so its easier..

I bought OEM BMW front shock stops for $20 each on Pelican parts, and they wanted $65-70 here in Adelaide...

actually while you are here, is there a definite advantage to having ate calipers on the front?

Search the forums; there has been plenty of discussion of ATEs over Girlings. With ATEs you can utilise the Solid Brake Guides (from BimmerWorld, Turner, VAC etc) and get exceptional brake pad wear (straight not bent). The Girlings tend to flog out their bearings inside the slides, and are also harder to replace pads on, requiring 2 different spanners and more patience, the ATEs only need a 7mm hex/allen key.

so for everyday use, and when you do a pad change less than once a year, its not really worth the cost to change it over, unless you are going to rebuild the stock brakes, so you may aswell start with the ATE

but if you track the car, and drive it harder, then it's a worthwhile option,
but in saying that, if you were going to track the car, wouldn't you upgrade to even better brakes than a pissy small single piston caliper on a small rotor anyway?

what about wear to the rotor? if the girlings dont demolish the rotor ill just stick with them till a set of ates pops up for sale.

Not the case, just the rear cover (8x M10 bolts with 17mm heads on cover, 1x M12 Bolt with 19mm head/nut through cover side mount).

And the standard size E30 brakes are more than capable for track work for most E30s. Obviously if you greatly increase the power and speed, you'd look at 4 piston fronts with a 280mm or bigger rotor; but for E30s, given the speed they produce and the weight that they are, the brakes are more than ample.

A good fluid, bigger master cylinder, braided lines, 2"/50mm ducting, solid guides (ATEs only), slotted rotors and the correct pad selection all make a difference. After that an adjustable proportioning valve is the last step.

SpecE30 in the US races on the standard package, with cars of similar horsepower but at least 95kg heavier than those in E30 Racing in Australia. They have no real issues.

I've seen brakes smaller than ours on some Falcons/Commodores, so BMW was certainly more generous than some other manufacturers of the time!

i got told if i went solid bushes id have to lubricate them constantly.

Will get girling rebuild kit, rebuild the calipers, if i find someone with ates willing to swap i guess ill go for it.

in reality how bad will using girlings be? Will it damage my rotors in anyway? If i go girlings i need to get seals and guides regardless, if i go ate i may have to wait for a while before i do the upgrades to my car.
