that's how mine looked when i first did them...
clear coat might be the answer
I think i will repaint them again, but this time have an arsenal of tools with me, mainly being some acetone so i can wipe it off easily if i stuff up, some wet and dry sandpaper to get a smooth layer between coats, and some clear coat, as well as some polish
that's how mine looked when i first did them...
now why couldn't mine look that good, i definately went one layer too many, mines almost black, ok, its on the list of things to do
oh, also started last night removing the drag link from the spare car, why the hell is all my ball joints in every location siezed on, everything from tie rod ends, to drag links and control arm joints, not one comes off easily, and most are still attached, fighting an uphill battle and giving up too easily
the ones on the spare car all look pretty new, the drag link even still has a genuine BMW paper sticker still on it!!
still havent swapped the front suspension parts over, but i have managed to swap the headlining over and pillar trims from the parts car, i did this as mine was sagging and the parts car had been retrimmed at some recent stage
I also adjusted the sunroof to sit flush, as before the rear sat a little lower, i still havent gotten the sunroof trim piece out of the parts car yet, as its battery is flat i havent bothered jumping it, to open the sunroof
Interestingly, the parts car has a had the whole roof section replaced on it, from the pillars up, neat job, and the welds are only noticable under the sikaflex to cover the joins, i wonder why it was done, again only noticable with the trim pieces off
other things i want to do include, remove front bumper and clean up behind it, the plastic bumper trim pieces that sit on the lip between the bumper and grill have mostly fallen off and are just sitting in the void, and also the drivers side of the bumper is not on exactly square to the guard, so i want to adjust that
i want to regas the A/C system, and hopefully nothing else is worng with it
swap this suspension over, all the front steering components from the parts car look pretty new, and i will now need to source a set of control arms, as the drivers side bush is now flogged out, and the parts car one is bent
Thinking about selling the old girl, not sure yet though, i love how smooth it drives and the amount of comments i get about how nice it looks
but i'm a performance orientated car person, and whilst this beast handles with the best of them, the acceleration just isn't up to my standards
still got a few small things to do to it before i sell it, and it will come with the spare car for parts, i have a general figure in my mind
Just removed the front bar to refit it on again straight, as the D/S was sagging a little
refitted the bumper seals as they had fallen behind the bumper, found the small fuse box cover in the chassis rail!! and removed a few zip ties and fixed a few little things, just looks neater now, and fitted a tow hook cover i had gotten from the UK, still need drivers side one if anyone has one?
going through the computer today i found some old pics of the E30 my mum owned which then got passed onto my little sister before she sold it
When mum first got it, it had a full M-Tech kit on it, and was lowered a LOT, i recall that the rear tyres were tucking noticably, too low that she raised it up
From what i remember about it, there was a lot of hassles with the car, we had rebuilt the whole driveline, from diff, to new clutch and tailshaft to engine rebuild due to timing belt snapping, and later a valve snapped too, anyway, , also the instrument cluster had a wiring short at some stage and melted the whole thing behind, so no guages worked, and a replacement was too much, rust and bad body was the deciding factor to sell it
It was a 318i manual coupe
We then sold it onto a young guy, who promptly rolled it, "dodging a kangaroo" apparently,![]()
A guy came fron sydney to get some parts for his E34, mainly exhaust system, i noticed that on the parts car, the tailshaft looks brand new, and has been repainted in the hammertone finish, just another bonus for me, if my shaft ever becomes an issue
Jacked my car up on the weekend with the intention of lowering it (i have pedders springs sitting there) and in the end i loosened the catalytic convertor part of the exhaust to realign it all, tight and snug to the body, which in turn ended up in me high flowing them out of curiosity to see if it sounds better/goes better
I have a spare section there from the other car so it's not an issue, anyway, if anyone has done this to their car they will know its a prick of a job, wire mesh all through the catalytic convertor bodies, results- pulls better in high revs and has a slightly louder note to it
Looking at doing an auto flush soon, and contemplating fitting an external trans oil cooler to the car
Oh! also fixed the A/C system, or at least know whats still wrong with it, i evacced the system and regassed it, couldn't turn it on in the cabin, so i bridged the pressure switch so it would turn on, added more gas, and it started getting colder, looked at the temp guage to see it rising and realised the aux fan isn't turning on, and left it at that stage
on the highway it blows cold air and doesn't overheat, parts car to the rescue (again) for the aux fan, once i had more pressure in the system the cabin switch turned the A/C on and off
Just did a trip to Newcastle and back for my Air Force interviews/tests, and although i knew Ethanol fuel was worse for economy, here's some stats my car had on the trip there and back
The average speed the whole trip was 90kph, going by the OBC, but there mainly was a lot of 80kph roadworks and a 110kph highways, and with the cruis control being used most of the time, on the way there (400km's) with a tank of E10, i averaged 10.8l per 100kms, terrible, on the way back i filled her up with 98 octane premium, and averaged a 9.5L per 100kms
So basically the money saved from buying the cheaper stuff is offset by the extra km's i do with the 98oct, city driving would be a different story, as the o2 sensor isn't working as much in stop start driving as its in open loop, an and just using ECU settings
Round trip to sydney proved relatively easy, no hiccups or issues along the way
However i do need new control arms in the front, they are worn, so now just looking at options
and going to replace the viscous fan with a thermofan, as in built up traffic in sydney in the middle of the day, the temp started creeping up, which confirmed my thoughts on the faulty viscous fan hub, will also fix the aux fan at the same time
I just plan on mounting a 16" fan in the stock location whilst keeping the stock fan shroud and bolting the thermo to that
oh yeah, HID's arrived today, but wasn't home for the package, so will get them on monday from the post office
Got two sets of H1's for the low beam and the fog lights, 6000K, both sets delivered for $140, will see how they go for quality, word is they are fine
yeah that's pretty cheap
i know, i'm trying to remember which one off ebay it was, my email account played up somehow and i lost all my emails, one of which was the receipt and link to the sellers things
nmepare@yahoo.com that is the email, i still had that on paper at home, it actually totalled $125 US inc delivery, as i had planned on getting more kits for mates car and go with one postage price, but mates bailed, and i think he still kept the postage cheaper
Tuesday i will have the kit in front of me, and i will tell you then, monday is an important day for me, final interviews with the Air Force to become a pilot, if i pass this one, then i start flight screening!
