Fair call - thanks for the explanation. I noticed the Vipec when it came out and put it on my possibilities list. Im still heading in the SM4 direction but will be great to see how you go with the Vipec. So many ways to skin a cat.

74 02 Schwarz (resto) - Now done!
i know i've got a stack of vids of shenanigans from back in the day but they're all sitting on a dead hdd. i'll see if i can dig them out. much hilarity
Still waiting Dave......
Pipework is now 99% done, we had some dilemmas deciding where to run the outlet pipe from the compressor housing. With the housing clocked one way, it would run over the rocker cover and oil cap (option was to mill the oil neck off, plate it up and put a filler neck further back), next position it wouldn't fit it would hit bonnet, the next way it would go out towards fender and need and extremely tight radius bend plus it would be in the way of my airbox, couldn't run it out through the guard because on full left lock my tyre would scrub it, and finally where it's running it sits about 15mm from runner 1 on the manifold which we are worried about heat melting the silicone coupling, so a heatshield will be made and that will be ceramic coated along with the manifold to try and reduce as much radiant heat as possible. Just means I'll have to keep spare couplers in my car in case one splits, they are only worth about $3 a pop anyway
Should have a set of 720cc Denso injectors on the way from the USA. This means a new fuel rail (the bungs are 11mm not 14mm like OEM). Chose the Denso's because they have a good spray pattern and are low impedence injectors so will be able to handle the idle better.
Still tossing up what to do about fuel delivery - obviously there is the current in-tank lift pump - which I will feed into a ~2L surge tank, then from that I will either run a Bosch 044 or two of them in parallel (failure redundancy), into the Aeromotive fuel regulator, then obviously my custom rail and out the Denso injectors. All the lines will be replaced with teflon braid.
Then the ECU wire up will begin! Ray at ViPEC has just modified the firmware to include some new features, also the ECU will now feed directly into my AiM dash via CAN. For anyone that cares about all the technical side that changed - check here - http://www.vi-pec.com/page_files/FirmwareChanges.html .... quite a substantial list![]()

Do you have the manifold ceramic coated? That stuff is awesome! I love working on cars that have the coated extractors, no burnt hands for me![]()

Awesome. Glad you replaced the old thread with this

sounds like a nice project so far, will be interested to see what path you choose with the brakes, and i love how that M3's rollcage is so neat, barely even noticable
Not yet, but it will be getting black coated from Competition Industrial Coatings in Kelmscott, along with the turbine housing, dump pipe, heatshielding and possibly rocker cover.
I'm 99% sold on the Massive Brakes RACE kit front + rear, it's just a matter of $$ really.Originally Posted by Stoney
