    Hyundai Genesis Coupe

I came across an odd-looking hyundai as I walked past their stand thing at the Ekka recently, and thought WTF is this?! It was the Genesis coupe. I think it is probably to be the replacement for the tiburon. I actually don't mind it, somehow?!
Sure, it has some pretty strong styling cues from other brands (i.e. roofline to me looks stolen from 350z). But it also comes with a 3.8l that develops 222kw and 360nm, which would be fairly handy methinks! The more mundane 2.0l also puts out some alright numbers.
I think they would have to sell it under some other badge than hyundai for it to be successful here. For me, whenever I hear 'hyundai', I have a mental image of 1995 excel with the paint peeling off and a fully sik spoiler...

    here's the link though: http://genesiscoupe.hyundai.com/

    What do you guys reckon??

The genesis is a big deal over here, not so much the coupe that i've seen though, but the sedan.
i've had a look at them, i'm impressed.
i think they're around 25k cheaper than the Lexus, massive engine in them, economical too aparently, build quality from what i saw was pretty reasonable. i'd even say it was good.

Hyundai i reckon are underrated these days, they build good cars
    Gooooone

Reminds me of the old FX Coupe Hyundai brought out years ago. Looks cheap and I won't go near one. Just my 2 cents...

The car looks to have a promising future among tuners & enthusiast's alike.

Already there's multiple companies producing after market parts for them, and not dodgy shit like WRX body kits & huge wings, proper parts that actually enhance the looks & performance.

I personally think they look really nice, & they look to have a decent build quality.

I just watched the animated video on their website. It spins the REAR wheels. Is this some kind of CGI trickery, or are they having a crack at making a drivers car?

Lol yeah, they bill it as a 'track car made for the road' or some crap like that, can't remember the tagline. But it did mention 'track' somewhere. Excitement! haha

    could be interesting
Drag racing an e30 is like playing poker with a hooker. It's fun but it's not what you bought it for.

I like this take on the Genesis: Rgys Millenn Racing Hyundai Genesis coupe
    500hp, bored out the 3.8 V6 to 4.1.

How about this supercharged V8 version? Hyundai-developed screw-type supercharger mated to the 4.6-liter Tau V8. With 11 pounds of boost huffed into the bent eight, the RKSport sedan is putting out an estimated 460 horsepower, but with a new cylinder deactivation system, fuel mileage is equivalent to that of the V6-equipped Genesis.""

I have read a head to head comparo somewhere between the genesis and the 350Z. The Nissan was better but not by much at all, despite costing about 25% more than the Korean.

Yea me too. The rear also looks similar to the curvy Lantra shape. I'm sure it'll be a lot better than previous efforts but still not as good as other brands.

    Underated in what sense?

Hyundai Motor Corp now sells more cars globally than any European company having recently overtaken the VW group. They also sell more cars than Mitsibishi, Chrysler Group, Mazda, Suzuki or Nissan and they've barely been on the markets for 20 years, during which they've mostly been building absolute rubish.

Just wondering, how much more market domination do they need to get before you think they get the rating they deserve?

Also if Hyundais are good cars now, whose cars do you think are the worst?

I think he was referring to the perception that they are shit, even though their sales figures and contemporary quality might suggest other wise, perhaps?

BMW. They haven't done anything good since the E30.

Holden, Ford, anything American, French cars, Suzuki... Where do you want me to stop?
The Tiburon is very good value for money you know. If Hyundai puts its mind to it they can get a good car together. Toyota got it right lately with their Leuxuses (or is it Lexy?), can't see why Hyundai wouldn't do it, too. The Genesis looks like a decent RWD sports coupe to me. I wouldn't judge it before a test drive just because has got the "wrong" badge.
