So your ordering oil from a company just done for false advertising, and who don't publish HTHS specs which are critical to BMW engines? Interesting indeed.

Thanks for the link, Yetti. Some of the symptoms on that site sound like problems I have, and I'm having work done soon - so I've added new seals to the list.

    hey gang

the other day i replaced the solenoid cover bolts + the filter bolt in the vanos unit, as per the DIY thats in this thread somewhere

    + i also changed oil + filter (motul 8100 xcess 5w40)

very happy with the results - vanos is a fair bit quieter now! engine loves the oil too. so i can recommend as its cheap, quick and cant hurt!

+ its just like IKEA because all you need is an allen key

didnt go the RP ? i just dropped my life savings on the RP racing 41 10w40 from outlaw speed shop
cant wait till it goes in

also did you torque up the bolts and vanos filter to required setting
there is a strict torque for these bolts so they dont loosen or sheer etc?

sounds good man, i just decided to grab something readily available in the end, as i dont track the car so a high end street lube will do. let me know how it goes though i bet its awesome

in regards to the solenoid cover bolts - i didnt use a torque wrench im afraid. this is because you cant get the torque wrench in there unless you remove the shroud and the fan. they only need 8nm from memory, so a halfish turn with the key after hand tightening is about all it took

it pay to have them checked or re check em in 500k's to allow for the hot cold expansion
    make sure they haven't loosed
i really want to do this myself, but rather have it done for warrenty purposes
