    Bmw 1602

G'day every one. i'm new here and i thought i'd share my new project car.

Some back story. My dad and uncle have been road rallying a 2002 from about '98. In that time it has seen 2 new shell, 3 different colours and getting better and better each time. This is where i have got some of my mild technical knowledge from. One car was build in 7 weeks from the old one! I have also done service crew for 3 other BMWs, 2 of them were 2002 and one was a CSL.

My car is/was the spare parts car for the rally car. So it has a few little things missing and hasn't been driven in ages.

It is a 1969 BMW 1602 but it has a 1974 BMW 2002 motor with a 4 speed on the back.

Heres a short list of what is wrong:
Speedo is wrong (wrong gear that drives it)
    Over fueling the carbi
    Dash falling apart
    Rusting boot lid
The hood is far from straight but has had some work done
Drivers door a little rusty where it has hit the hood.
It's now decided that it will over heat all the time, so i looks like it might have done a head gasket. Other then that the motor is totally rebuilt.

I've just picked up some BMW 320i rear drums and they are almost ready to do on.
I have a Weber 45 to go on but i need to a manifold for it first. I've done some research and a Linx one from the states.

I think i have my work cut out for my. Any way heres some pics of it.

The other car is one of the rally cars.

These are some newer shots of it. A little more arty.

My uncle put the 2002 badge on before he gave it to me, but i think i'll put the 1602 ones back on.

The interior isn't all that bad, just a little hard on the back side on long drives.

This is my daily driver. '91 Mitsubishiti Galant SE

It doesn't look like much but i have out run a few sports cars in the twisty near my house. I lowered it an inch with very stiff springs, then put some fatter wheels on from a later model galant. I'm a pizza driver so i get to do lots of driving.

    Cheers Tommo

    Mate,
Looks clean! I agree with putting the 1602 badge back on. They are rarer than 2002's anyway! I was under the impression the Lynx single sidedraft manifolds were NLA. I think you and a lot of others would love one but i dont think Lynx are still making them. I know of one here in Vic which might be worth looking into though.

I found this place on the web that has the lynx ones for the sidedraft 45.
    http://www.carburetion.com/LynxManifolds.asp
It's about $500AUD for one. So far it's the only place i have found.

What/Where is the one you know of here?

    cheers

Yeh ive seen them advertised before but i keep hearing they are out of production. Have you emailed to check?

The one i know of is on MadE21's heap of rust. Also, TMK-001 has one which he might be willing to sell for the right amount (w/weber 45 DCOE as well)

also is the carby just overfueling on idle or throughout the rev range.

    Sweet car!

Sure you don't want to run two carburettors though?

It's twin choke 45 DCOE side draft. it came from dads old dirty rally Ford MK 1 GT Cortina. It sat on that in our back yard for long then i've been around (over 20 years) then when the car was sold it sat in the garage for the last 5 or 6 years. It's just a little rusted up! Re-co will cost about $300 i'm told.

It's got a Down draft weber of some kind that my uncle just bolted on and didn't get tuned up, so i think it has the wrong choke in it. I could get it fixed but i want to have the 45 on there more.

Thanks mate. the Yellow car in my sig runs 2 Side draft 40 webers, and dad seams to think the 45 will be as good as the 2 40's. It's more of a money thing too. i want to have some money to get the body straight and get a cage in.

    cheers

Some people refer to them as e10's and the 2002 turbo as an e20

I believe you can setup some large jets in the 40's to run around the same as a lowish jet setting on a set of 45's.

That must have been what he was talking about. I'll leave all that up to the carbi tech guy. I'm over my head in that area!

Fark that! Rebuild kits are about $20-$30 for sidedraugh carbies. And if there's anyhting major wrong with it you could get two 45s for $300.

... +$245 intake manifold.... IMHO 45's are overkill on an otherwise stock M10 considering you can jet 40's to act like them anyway. Thats why a single sidedraft is so good on an M10

Where would i go looking for one of these rebuild kits? I'll have to get a photo of how rusted up this thing is.

I'd stick with the downdraft i've got on there, but i have the 45 so i may as well use it. The rest of the motor is stock for now anyway
