    ALfa 147 Servicing

Does anyone know if $1500 is a good price for a 60k service on an 04 manual 147. My brother in law was quoted this through a stealership, he's a little miffed. Also if he has a fixed price servicing contract then should it cover this service as well?

You change cambelts at 60k, so at an Alfa dealer that sounds about right. Cambelt changes aren't cheap and they most certainly are required, every 3 years or 60k.

Alfa has a cambelt "special" (lol) for $452 which doesn't include the 3.5 hours of labour. So when you consider that, you get the rest of the service done for $700 or so, which is about what I would expect from the dealer.

If you can go to a specialist without voiding warranty, then do it because you will definitely save money.

Make sure this price inclused cam and balance belts, and tensioner bearings. Some of these cars use plastic rollers on the idler bearing, and these are fragile to say the least. The price sounds quite good if it includes everything.

Why take it to a dealer and pay $130 or so an hour....... I had my last 156 TS timing belt done at concord auto electrical for around $1250. New plugs, complete timing kit with balance belt and tensioers, filters oil etc..... the dealers charge to much for labour.
