All I can say is that this has been an amazing project to watch. I wish I had more time to work on my 323 as seening the things you have done is amazing. Well done.

    Cheers

Althought it's been fairly rushed I've tried to do everything as properly as time dictates.

I had some success tonight with interfacing, oil pressure, water temp (though I need to calibrate it), and oil level which should get rid of all the error messages on the BMW dash

The water level error will be overcome by placing a jumper accross it's now unused plug, unless I can incorporate it into my new oeverflow.

One thing I found very handy was the fact the nuetral safety start is built in to the BMW gear selector, along with it's gear indicator switch. I will have to play with this a little bit though as the toyota has one less gear, because of it's electronic overdrive.

Tomorrow I will comence wiring up the auto mode select, overdrive, stop, kickdown etc switches and modify the BMW accel cable as needed.

I have also found I will need to lengthen the Cruise cable due to it being too short, but this I think I should be able to do moderately easily.

Are you still using the same radiator? i know that you might be able to use an e28 overflow tank which is seperate if its a jap radiator (which has an overflow hose rather than having the filler tank on the rad like some of the e34 radiators i've seen)

Rob, I've retainted the BMW factory E32 radiator. I have incorporated a fill point into my top radiator hose. I will be using the small outlet on the top of the pass side tank as a bleed that will be blanked off after the radiator is full. I have a return cao fitted that will draw from a resevior off the the side where the factory headlight washer was.

Just spoke to Trevor at Universal, it seems my tailshaft wasn't as easy to modify as it could have been... It requires a sleeve I believe now and a new section of tube on the front, so hopefully it will be finished today it not early tomorrow.

Hmmm...shouldve just gone the one-piece custom shaft?? Im sure that wouldve been less hassle for you and him??

Possibly. But I'm not sure how the rubber coupling would cope with a single piece, nor am I too keen on have to remove the diff to fit the tailshaft :P

This will work out fine in the end I'm sure, it's just the unknowns that have arisen.

    All part of the fun

Drove the car today had an issue with the engine stopping once changing back in to park or neutral from a gear.

    But this has been resolved

    Photos to come.

Haha...im laughing here because i spent the better part of yesterday removing the diff, lining up the gearbox for new mounts, because i wasnt happy where i was sitting.

But in saying that, which rubber coupling are you talking about? Because i removed my center coupling, since its a "one-piece" there was no need for it to be there anymore.

Also cant wait to see what this is going to be like out on the road

Wayno, I managed to get the Tailshaft in Was concerned but it worked out okay, I may still lower the rear of teh gearbox down slightly because I'm not 100% happy with the tailshaft alignment just yet, but it is working

You can see the rubber coupling in an image below and the slight missalignment it is soaking up.

I've also included a shot of the tailshaft, which universal did for me They had to fit a new front tube though as the BMW factory one wouldn't take a good weld.

I also included a pic of the integration of the ECT switch and my O/D switch panel that replaces the BMW switch. I was tempted to make a circuit that will change the dash indicator from S to E when switching from PWR to Norm, but can do this later. One think that won't bother me too much is when the dash reads S3 I'm really in second and when it reads S2 I'm in 1st. S1 doesn't get reached. I can pull the BMW switch apart to see if I can fix this... Or jsut live with it :P

It was too late to get any photo's tonight, but the exhaust is complete and I have been driving the car

It sounds like a V8/12 to my ears, with the throb from the exhaust, but I'm unhappy with the noise level and will be fitting a 18inch resonator in the system also in order to quieten it down a bit. I really don't want a loud exhaust, much prefer to have an unobtrusive note, rather then something that rattles the cabin.

MOD plate will happen tomorrow or tuesday afternoon.

Overall I'm very happy with the conversion. I DO need to fit a boost cut defender to the car as because I've free'd the exhaust right up I'm hitting boost cut now, just as the car really starts to pull. With a BCD it will pull nicely through to redline/gear change.

There are some things that I need to address. The air conditioning will need some new lines made. I need to run the heater hoses properly. I will be fitting a turbo timer with boost gauge built in. And now for some horrid reason I have alternator whine, that will require tracing and fixing.

I have been logging water temps with my multimeter and haven't seen any higher then 91deg C after some splts up some hills. The thermo turns on at around 89deg C and continues running until around 84-5 deg C where it shuts off. At idle the fans only kicks in every now and then, which I'm very happy with. These temps will probably rise a couple of degrees when I connect the in radiator transmission cooler though. But they are no way high.

    Cheers mate.

I'll probably be using a jaycar boost controller should I decide I need one though, due to already having a digital fuel adjustor kit in the car I can use to tune the mixtures.

This will happen at a later date though. I need to stop the car hitting boost cut under load
