I'm over here for the week, and been travelling around for work, so got to sample some of the roads on the North Island. The drive from Auckland to Taupo was pretty plain on the first day, but for the last couple of days we've been out and about. Taupo to Whakatane is pretty cool, its like...
Old Pacific Highway, NSW Length: 39 kilometres Driving Time: 40 minutes Most Sydney motoring enthusiasts would regard this as the route between Berowra and Somersby, although the term is used coloqually to describe any sections of Pacific Highway that have been superseded by freeway (e.g....
Had some time today to head up to the Brisbane Ranges and check out a few roads. Rockbank to Glenmore This is one of those roads that looks like its just there to connect the main roads. Not far from Rockbank itself, the 80 zone drops off to a no speed zone. Its pretty smooth, no real drama's....
Gents, myself and a couple others did this a couple of weeks ago, during the 4am GOR run: ...
This might be a touch controversial, but if you read through then I’m sure you can see why. Great Ocean Road (GOR) Overview Map Official Tourist Site Wiki The GOR is one of the most picturesque roads in Australia, and certainly deserves a mention as one of the most beautiful roads in the...
After today's run, I thought I might put up the map if anyone wants to run it themselves at a later date, when the weather might be more suited to the day. It starts at the BMW Bodyshop in Port Melbourne, and doesn't use any toll roads, and should take a good part of the morning to get through. ...
Pretty much the entire Great Alpine Highway is a fun bit of tarmac, but local to me is the stretch from Bruthen (15km NE from Bairnsdale) to Ensay on the way to Omeo... Nice flowing corners, some ripper hairpins & a few blind ones with trucks coming at ya but generally a challenging bit of road......
Did this run last night. Amoungst the devistation that is in this area, there are some pretty good roads. If you like the tight twisty stuff head here! Starts off fairly mellow heading up Chum Creek Road towards Toolangi, once you hit Toolangi State forest you get into some good flowing...
I have driven past Mt Buffalo on numerous occaisons heading to other great destinations. I was up there recently with Cazzle. We were in her AWD Nissan Dualis Ti. I certainly wished I had of taken the turn years ago.:) It has had a lot of new bitumen laid following the water damage from the...
Drove this one today and man it was awesome!!! This one is not for anyone who doesn't like tight, twisty roads. If you like that sort of road however and you're ever up around The Grampians, be sure to add it to your list! A long series of switchbacks, hairpins and blind corners linked by...
The RNP road, for those of you who didn't know, has been resurfaced and is simply brilliant! Before, I avoided it, as it was just so harsh and bumpy, but now that it is fresh the corners are so much more fun! So For those of you who have not yet been there since, you must do it! Really...
Mt Mee Road Ran through 20kms of this today, had forgotten what a tight twisty, fun piece of blacktop this can be, a bit bumpy (trucks) mid corner everywhere, not much Armco....nice Just remember to dodge the organ-donors on 2 wheels. Brisbanites should relate to this road.. ...
Was suprised that this road was not on the forums. This drive is about 15-20km thru ku-ring-gai national park. The drive has great smooth surface and high and low elivations. And the tight high speed turns are not forgoten aswell :). Mates and I usually head here on Saturday night and have a high...
This road leads from Windsor to Singleton, its a road that has a bit of everything, from fast sweepers to tight switchbacks and blind hairpins. You start at Windsor and head out through Wilberforce and Colo, the road starts out as a nice winding road up the hills then a fast set of sweepers for...
One of the Runs i Found one day looking @ a street directory..amazing what they can do when you spot a wiggly road. There is about a 1km section of dirt road along one of the roads however the rest makes up Heading out of Lilydale, we've all done the run many times to healesville along the...
Just did it today and had a blast. Great twisties on both sides of Scottsdale. Enough room and vision that you can mostly see what's coming and really hook into it in safety. Enough places to pass safely that you can get round the dawdlers. I had a dream run today, the only three or four cars I...
This is a eulogy remembering a time of freedom. Up until the begining of this year the NT was a place where every-one who loved the thrill of speed could revel. If you didn't allready know, up until the first of january this year most of the roads in my home territory had no speed limits, the idea...
I've driven a fair chunk of Aus. And cut my teeth on the roads of the Adelaide Hills. And love driving them to this day. But, I have to rate the lap of Tassie I did in my Clubby as one of the best driving experiences I ever had. So for me. Tassie 1. SA (specifically the Adelaide Hills) 2. ...
A very popular route for motorcyclists and motorists alike. Stretches of the road feature in the Classic Adelaide Rally most years (if not every year), and the Tour downunder. You can start from the Flagstaff Hill hotel, head up Happy Valley rd, a couple of nice chicanes, I mean, roundabouts...
All, Before it is destroyed by hundreds of caravan toting four-wheelers, try this for a run. Goulburn to Taralga then through the Abercrombie River pass (care here, narrow road) to Black Springs, XRTR through Oberon, TJTL at the Genolan Caves road, head through to the Western Hwy, TJTR at...
Surprised there arent more comments about Taswegia (maybe I didnt look back far enough) Road from Campbelltown (south of Launceston) to Swansea is a wonderful winding smooth as silk stretch. Would be a dream on a bike. Heading south on that coast from Bicheno is also a great drive. Have...
This used to be a good alternative bit of road to the boring freeway, but morons have been ruining it for the majority. I seem to recall someone posting a video here of some idiot reversing or doing a u-turn on a blind corner? Anyway I'm not going to take this scenic route to the CC any more....
Cooma to Adaminaby is a great drive. Little ttraffic, long flowing sweepers one after the other, fantastic road surface, scenery, it has everything and didn't see a single police car. Don't know about Adaminaby on but it could be as good or better.
Cazzle and I spent last 3 days driving the best roads before winter closure comes in. Ringwood to Merton. Great drive from Merton to Seymour thru the edge of the Strathbogies. Wangaratta to Bright. Bright to Hotham. Do this every year. 1st time in the R32, very well behavedm Dinner Plain to...
